This transition anticipates future European REACH regulations concerning per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), particularly the PFHxA restriction (EU Regulation No. 2024/2462), which will come into force by October 2027 for all finished products marketed within the European market.

The transition to PFAS-free chemistry does not affect the water repellency performance of Sunbrella upholstery fabrics, in accordance with the ISO 4920 Spray Test. As with the upholstery textile industry as a whole, however, this transition may lead to reduced resistance to oily substances and a gradual increase in wettability over time.
Nevertheless, Sunbrella fabrics retain all the qualities for which they are renowned:

- as well as high resistance to abrasion and pilling.
