“If we break down the 1.1 million of non-reusable textile waste potentially available [annually] for fibre-to-fibre recycling and assume that mechanical recycling will never reach any significant share of post-consumer waste management, we have about 330,000 tons of pure cellulosic fibre waste and 120,000 tons of pure polyester waste available for chemical or thermo-mechanical recycling annually across the EU, maybe a little more if some of the recycling processes can handle small fractions of other fibre contaminants such as elastane.
